Because of my damn case making things hard, I have both my hard drive and my DVD drive connected to the same IDE cable......so since the hard driver slows down to the DVD drive speed, then will I have decreased performance?

Firstly, the old ATA spec would have that problem, and it would be reversed. The ATA HDD would transfer data much faster than the DVD drive. Secondly, that problem has been eliminated since ATA 4 or 5, unless your running a pre-coppermine Pentium III, I wouldn't be concerned too much.

Just check the DMA/PIO settings in windows, Every time an error occurs on a drive, Windows automatically drops it back a level on the DMA/PIO. (For instance from DMA mode 6 to 5)
Just Google the net to reset the DMA levels :) should be a registry entry.

You shouldn't have decreased performance all that much, But if you Burn a DVD it should be a bit faster as they are on the same channel. (I think!)
