You still have the problem?
OK, I've heard other people who had this problem say it had something to do with their router. (Linksys ones I think... can't remember)
Well after they flashed their router with a newer firmware the problem was fixed... you could try looking into that.
Also, you should make sure your Half-Life is completely up-to-date, there might be a bug fix... (probably already up-to-date though)
A couple more (most likely pointless) things you can try are: "Verify integrity of game cache" and "Defragment cache files" (for HL1).
One last quick question: Which video mode are you using?
It won't make a difference (atleast it shouldn't), but last time someone asked you said "default"...
I think, unless you change it in HL or another mod, the default video mode set by HL is Software.
Use Open GL if possible; Direct 3D if not possible... Software should normally be last choice.
