All the fancy graphical updates have got me thinking. Since you guys already have most of the latest graphical advancements in-game, why not add some of the DirectX 11 features like Tessellation in Esf for those who can use it.

I honestly don't know whether it is even possible to add those features, and I also don't know how much work it will be. But if it is easily implemented without delaying the game for more then a month or so, it will greatly improve the life expectancy of the mod, especially through the next generation.

Go easy now.

We are adding Open GL stuff. ESF will not be compatible with ANY Direct X what so ever.

From what i've heard, OpenGl was able to do Tessellation and such much earlier than DirectX was able to. Is it still possible to add those?

ESF will die on OpenGL therefore no DirectX11 for ESF, sry if we were going down that road I would rather rewrite the entire engine.
And no tesselation for ESF either. Sorry too much of a hassle. We got tons of tasks already.

tessellation is not some magic that you can switch on unfortunately artists still have to use it and atm. they are pretty busy as it is.

Furthermore, just because it's possible does not mean it will run well. Why implement features that only a handful of ppl will be able to use?

Futureproofing is the opposite of scaling, grega. Implementing features that few will utilize now but more will do so in the future. But still, it's extra work we don't need to do and we have enough to do :p
