I'm suggesting to change DeathMsg display.

Now it's:
Code:
hleV killed madman121 with finalflash
In 1.3 it could be:
Code:
hleV :finalflashicon: madman121
This way it would:
  • look better;
  • not make confusion for players who can't really tell which beam is it by its name (like if you are adding more attacks, like Vegeta's beta Final Flash, seen in Frieza Saga, noone knows that name, but it's easy to create an icon for it, isn't it?).
So, what do you think? Or maybe it's already been decided to implement?

  • 3 against.

I like this. It would be like in CS :) Though I think they already implemented that in ESF 1.3. I mean c'mon :D

Honestly i rather have the text.

Face it. Only people who actually watched DBZ play ESF. They know the attack names.

Besides having icons that are big enough for you to tell the difference betwean beams of the same colour (meaning the size of the HUD icons) would be anoying.

I'm not sure how often someone would be killed with different attacks. If the fights are longer in this one, I think the kill display might matter less.

On the other hand, I think it's a cool idea. If the causes for kills were diverse enough, I think it'd be great. It really depends on how well Ki attacks are meshed with Melee.

Maybe this could be an optional feature at some point? I'd use the graphics instead of text personally.

Not really. I learned the attack names by playing ESF.

In any case, I think it's perfectly fine the way it is now, changing it just doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

I for one like this idea. The hard part would be making different beam icons and that would be a significant challenge for creativity.
Maybe instead of icons or "finalflash" it would be better to abbreviate, say finalflash becomes FF, or Kamehameha KH. It would benefit players who don't like big coloful icons to disturb their view.

I dislike this idea. When I first played ESF, I had no idea what the attacks were. (I didn't even know what Galit Gun was until I played ESF.) Just like Sub, the kill display helped me learn what the attacks were, despite the character screaming the attack name right before it's shot. Yes, it may look better, but the question is, will it be more confusing? How will first time players who have never watched DBZ know what a purple icon being shown in the kill display is? The answer? They won't know. I think it'd be better for everyone if we left the kill display the way it is instead of having newbies google the attack, or have them come to the forum asking what attack is what.
