Ive been wondering why I dont hear much about DDR2 memory. Its been out for some time now, and yet most of the RAM I see on the internet is still DDR1. With DDR3 scheduled for release in 2007, why is its predecessors predecessor still the norm?

DDR2 is notorious for high latencies, which often cancel out the benefit that its high frequency offers.

AMD are making the move to ddr2 this year, as intel system have had it for some time now. I'd want to see the latencies improve on ddr2 modules before I consider touching them. DDR2 prices at the moment are cheaper then DDR1 prices, but they may rise due to samsung reporting a shortage in DDR2 chips.
