yeah your right.. it's written.. not by a person though. It's made with a program like bmp2html: http://www.gavidia.org/pod/BMP2HTML.zip
you get a bmp and it'll convert it to html

the program is impresive.. the art isnt

True. Looks like he did random letters then placed a picture under it. I think i shall try it just to see how easi it is. besides most of the letters are two or more colours which is not possible with ascii

I think you are seeing things. It's html each character or row is build up like this:

<font color="#182028">j</font>

Each one has it's own color. Because they are small characters the collors blends into eachother making it look like they have 2 or more collors. Wich in fact they don't
