Beneficial Coffee Effects:

Long-term coffee usage is associated with significantly lower risk for type 2 diabetes:

Coffee contains an ingredient that protects you from liver cirrhosis, particularly alcoholic cirrhosis:

Coffee is also a diuretic and laxative, it is considered to help prevent constipation, though if you are drinking a good deal of coffee during the day you'll want to make sure you stay well hydrated with other beverages, like water.

Negative Effects of Coffee
Moderate to High Coffee consumption(4 or more cups a day) can be linked to Inflammatory Markers, which in turn are linked to Cardiovascular Disease

and disturb heart rhythm:

Caffeine stimulates acid secretion in the stomach possibly increasing chances of ulcers:

And acid reflux(A pain I know too well :( )

Coffee and hypertension
Coffee was believed to increase blood pressure once, though a Harvard study aiming to prove the increase ended up rejecting the theory(at least in women, this particular study didn't include men as test subjects):

Alrighty, I just felt like making a new thread for some of the comments that were going slightly off track in David's other thread. Anyway, I actually cited sources to support points, something I think this forum could use more of ;o (gotta love how almost all medical articles in Wikipedia contain citations so you can look up those instead of just believing what's on Wiki)

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was gonna be another game with a hot coffee mod. :laff:

Interesting though. Can't drink the stuff, personally.

I wondered why i got heartburn after i drink coffee... Usually whenever that happens, i just drink some milk.
I always take some milk in my coffee. Maybe that might help you a bit?

I personally don't drink coffee much. Like, twice a month, maybe.

The states has Tim Horton's?
I think they may be slowly getting them.

But I know that double-double is a pretty standard coffee order whether I'm at a Tim's, or Country Style, or a Coffee Time, double-double means the same thing.

In my most recent experience in the US, mind you, it was in 2002, I tried ordering a double-double in a donut shop, and they were confused as hell.

Yeah, we have Tim Horton's. There all over the place... atleast here in Michigan anyways. There's like 3 of them about 5 miles away from my house

You guys still have Country Style?! All the ones here folded up about 8 years ago. We used to go to them and order Timbits...

I've never even heard of Country Style... so im guessing its either gone, or its localized in a certain area of the United States, like the West or the South.

WTF is a double double besides a Basketball stat?
Double cream, double sugar, my good friend.

I used to enjoy coffee fairly frequently, but the lines at the two Tim Horton's at the U of M are perpetually long (plus, they only take cash; same for the other coffee distributors on campus, save for one; I seldom have cash on me, for whatever reason), so I don't get the chance to enjoy a double-double as often, these days.

Interesting links, though, Deman. I've been hearing all sorts of tidbits about the potential benefits and drawbacks of regular coffee consumption from various courses over the last 2.5 years; it's good to see some consolidated articles on the subject pooled into one thread :)

Nothing tops my daily double double and blueberry fritter. It's been a tradition of university since I started last year.
