Hey, everyone. I'm just curious--who exactly 'closes' a thread?
Is it a moderator, or the creator of the thread, or can either?

Several times I've wished to post in a thread, and whoops--
"Sorry! This thread has been closed."

It's very annoying.

I think everyone with a moderator status or above can close threads

Correct. Only mods, super mods, and admins can close a thread.

The only thing a creater of a thread can do is delete his own thread. When ever a thread is closed is because the thread has been answered, to much spam/flaming or it is just a pointless thread.

yep, Super moderators and admins can close any thread, normal moderators can just close the ones in the forum group they are moderator of.

closing this one to avoid spam. because the question has been answered.
