<hr>Ever since ESF's early days, the community has continuously suggested that all of the characters should have outlines. Today, your long awaited dream will come true.

For the last few months, the team has been hard at work improving ESF's looks and visuals. As an example, we will be showcasing one of the newest shaders: Character Outlines. Character Outlines are just black lines that surround the character to create a cartoonish effect. ESF currently uses two kinds of Character Outline shaders. The first and better looking shader is the Post Processed Outline Shader, which dynamically calculates the outlines based on the neighbor pixels depth the surrounding normals. The second shader is for the older computers that can't support the Post Processed Shader, called Fatboy. The Fatboy Shader is a simple version of the Character Outlines that duplicates the model, scales it up a bit, and colors the duplicated model black. You can reduce or increase the size of the Character Outlines using a simple cvar in console.

If you dislike the Character Outline Shader, you can turn it off with a click of a button, or turn it off with a simple cvar in console. Note that this is not cel-shading.

The Fatboy Shader is a simple version of the Character Outlines that duplicates the model, scales it up a bit DOING that in ms3d is like cell shadeing but still a good idea for the lowend comps

The fatboy method is basically the ms3d character outline method, but it might use less polies. Ask Raven, he knows way more about it than I do.

What would be the correspondent game that would need the same requirements as ESF will need? I just need to know if my machine can run it nicelly.

my specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz 2GB RAM and Geforge 7600 Go 128MB, I can use most of the shader. I play with 512x512 textures and I can run most of the shaders without any problems.

So, Intel Core 2 Duo 1.60Ghz 2GB RAM and Geforce 7300 Go 256MB wont be much of a difference. "considering that I dont use the official display drivers because they s**k".

LOL I have AMD with 2 GHz single core, 2 GHz (overclocked from 1.84), 1 GB RAM & 7600 GT with latest NVIDIA drivers. I'm not so sure about good FPS.

your 1gb of Ram will not only give you trouble with ESF. Anyways 1gb of extra Ram is basically not an issue to buy :-D

Yeah I bought 1GB for my laptop, for 12€ so that's not a hard investment.

How about buying by importing. Meaning by online where they have a pay when you get it policy.

Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghtz, 256mb 8600m GT (that's the laptop version so it's quite a bit weaker than the desktop counterpart). I have everything on at 1440 x 900 with no AA/AF or VSync. Get reasonable FPS even on complicated maps like city with tons of action.

So I would be correct to say that a Core2Duo@3GHz, 4Gb RAM, and a 1Gb 9800GT would wipe the floor with 1.3?

I upgraded almost solely for 1.3 ^_^
You should be very proud team, you shall take us all out of the Dark Ages.
