You just stated an oxymoron.

First off you ONLY need to forward 27015, but make shure you forward UDP ports, no need for the other.

Uhh lets see here... are you using linux or windows?
How are you running this server? Listen or dedicated?

If no-one can physically connect to the server, then my guess would be that it's your ESF installation. Try re-installing and tell us how it goes.

@ KWS - Wrong. You need ports 27000-27030 UDP & TCP enabled. Not just UDP.

Oh, but people are connecting.

This happens to me too. Some people can connect to my server, while others can't. That's just the way it is, I guess. I don't really think that's a huge deal. It just means you have to wait longer for someone to connect.

*Shrugs*, those dropped out people are most likely getting an "Time out" error. And yea, Earth Special Forces has it's way of randomly dropping out people while playing in game.

I am tired of repeating this: BULL

I have physically ran a server where people could join with only that solitary port open to the world. I am tired of people thinking up of this crap. ONLY 27015 needs to be open, END OF STORY.

Oh yeah there is multiple possibilities. I did some research:
1) You have an old version
2) They have a diffrent version
3) They quit joining your server just cause they felt like it
4) Some software is running on your system that takes up some bandwidth.

Thanks for your reply.

1) My version is up to date (1.2.3)
2) See 1.
3) Around 30 people in 20 minutes?
4) I have no software running which takes up bandwidth besides Steam at the moment of the server running. and when people finally manage to join their ping is <50.

That's the problem. Since EVM uses more Resources, people get a time out when they attempt to join your server. I also get loads of time outs when i try to join a EVM server. There is nothing to do to be able to fix that as far as i know.

I know the solution to this problem, I am glad that someone has asked a question I know the answer to.

While I regularily ran listenservers of esf and evm, I had this problem, both connecting to other servers, and having others connect to my own. I figured out the solution to his problem, and it is quite simple. All that must be done is change a cvar value.

sv_timeout controls how long the server waits before disconnecting a client while they are joining a server. The value default is 60, which is way too low for evm, or often for slower computers running esf, or running an esf or evm server. I reccomend setting this to 900 which will allow anyone to connect to your server. Add sv_timeout 900 to your listenserver.cfg and this will eradicate the problem. The default value for esf and evm should be changed to say 120 or 180, to allow more time.

Of course, those clients connecting to your evm server with esf will still be out of luck until they get evm, but that is their decision, and not for you to worry about.

Actually, they just need the files that the client requires to be able to join & play on the server. Doesn't matter if it's an empty file, or a filled file with something in it. As long you have the name of the files (valid of course, including extension) that the server needs from you. ^_^, but besides that point. Increasing the time out time is a good idea, worth a shot.
