Got the XP/VISTA CD? Launch it and use recovery mode. Should fix the issues.

It is always a good idea to have 2 or more partitions. C for Windows, D for your data, games and downloads. This way, if your windows gets damaged or you have to re-install. You can just format your C partition and keep the rest of your important data.

no not really you can do what's known as a Repair Install of Windows XP/vista which basically just "Upgrades" the installation.

If that doesn't work, use a copy of Windows XP Embedded to get your data off

What error does the blue screen of death give you?

It could be of drivers/memory/overheating.

I think that the windows update messed up with one of your drivers.

Edit, this is going to sound weird but. If your pc-savvy you should take off your memory modules and plug the psu cable off. Press power button 10 times of your computer so it all dropps the electricity. After that plug it all on and start it over. If your not very savvy, just try to take off its cable and then press the power 10 times.

Sounds like something that was happening to a Computer at the shop. It was having difficulties reading the C-Drive. Lets just say the owner put too much porn and downloaded something that wasn't what he wanted and now he has to lose it all to gain Windows back.
