Name or list guitarist's who you think is the best guitarist in the world.

Mine is Yngwie Malmsteen.

WTF is wrong with you guys?

JIMI HENDRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That guy could tune his guitar to reach notes that only few others could. HE was good a guitarist (not saying all of those others aren't =) )

Edit: Thank you Amnestometh, atleast someone around here knows. :)

I agree with everyone who posted above (specially gir)

But I'd like to add 2 guitarists i haven't seen mentioned- 1. Dan Donegan (disturbed) only becuase 1. I absolutely LOVE this rhythm and solo's- i don't care how easy they are, they sound great.

And Tony Rombola (Godsmack) Granted the guy can't do solo's for ****, he can sure as hell make kick ass rhythm.

I think there is no best guitarist personally, so many people bring different things to the table, i'll list my favourite ones though, no particular order.

Eric Johnson (No one's mentioned him yet?)
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Jimmy Page (He hasn't showed up either!)
Eddie Van Halen (oh em gee! not even him!)
John Petrucci (from Dream Theatre)
Joe Perry (Aerosmith)
Yngwie Malmsteen

If I absolutely had to choose a best guitarist though, I guess I would lean towards Steve Vai. He can rip up the fretboard at blazing speeds, but he can also inject a heavy dose of feeling and passion into his playing (Whispering a Prayer anyone?). He has experimented out of the box, as well as played everything there is to play within it. So if I had to choose, it would be him.

I love their solos...

And have you heard Adrian's guitar work out of Maiden?

Or The Alexander The Great ( Maiden song ) guitar work ?

no, i havent, ive been sat under a rock with my fingers in my ears for the past 7 years ive been playing guitar...

sure, they sound good, but that doesnt make the guitarrists great, they arent. they are mechanised, run off the mill guitarists with no innovative style, just like malmsteen, who just trys to re-write classical music and call it his own, and then plays it really really fast.

anyone can play guitar fast, andyone can remix music.

inventing new ways of playing is where its at, and theres only a couple of guitarrists alive who are doing it.

I can't believe i forgot to add Eddie Van Halen =(

He's the reason i learned how to play guitar in the first place. I heard Eruption and i had a boner for learning guitar.

John Petrucci (from Dream Theatre)
Perhaps my favorite guitarist. I listen to Dream Theater (theyre American) all the time, but put Petrucci on stage next to Vai and Satriani (G3 ftw), and the difference in ability is profound.

Thats right, gawk.

i'd spell it flavor, because that's how i type it and pronounce it
That was my thinking, but then Kazaa and I had a dissagreement over the spelling of Theater.
