I was bored and my head was swimming with bad ideas so here is the catastrophe resulting from the combination of both D:

Setting and changed elements:
Not in the original Pokemon world, this is an alternate world which plays out a lot differently than the original. Several aspects are different.
For one, this would be an open world game, not all out open though, there will be certain area's which can only be accessed while following the main quest and certain places unlocked only after meeting certain conditions.
Like the original games, there are lots of Pokemon trainers in the world, and a competition to become the Pokemon Battle Master, and like the original games, each region has their own Elite 4 and PBMaster.
However, this is no longer a part of the main story, it is an optional line of quests.
In fact, to even battle other trainers you must first acquire a 'Battle License', after which you are free to challenge any trainer or gym leader as you please, with each gym having their own qualifications needed before you can face the leader. Its not in a sequence anymore, you can choose which leader you want to face and when. Of course, being an open world game, there are certain times gym leaders may not be present or may be located elsewhere, this can also lead to different styles of battles against them, this will make sense once you read how the gameplay works.

Other activities from the original Pokegames are expanded upon and have their own questline, such as the contests, which work differently. There are several contests such as a stunt based one, where using Pokemon moves you have to create
stunts. These are not just done by Pokemon, but with both Pokemon and trainer working together. For example, a Pokemon uses surf with his trainer on it, doing his utmost to keep balance till the end.
Other activities also appear which you can do yourself, such as making custom Pokeballs which can potentially be better alternative to standard ones which you can buy anywhere. It is also possible to create Master balls, though the cost is insanely high, with the materials and time required.Like the original games, you automatically acquire one eventually, however its only a prototype that will not work until you finish it, though this requires a significantly lesser cost compared to the amount needed to make one yourself.

Berries and other items also make a return. Berries can be given to any Pokemon to equip, and it will automatically be used when needed. Items are used by the trainer, though they work differently due to the completely different gameplay.

TM's no longer teach moves, instead they are used in a similar fashion to berries. They are equipped to a Pokemon(separate slot from berry) and can be activated in battle to allow the Pokemon to use the move inside temporarily or just once depending on the move. Of course, the limits are there, a Geodude can't learn Fly for example.
However, there are several moves which are TM only now, and cannot be learned by Pokemon, and in some cases are extremely powerful.
HM's are like TM's from the original games, and teach a move once to a Pokemon such as Surf. However the moves are no longer unique, but can be learned by the Pokemon itself, though the time required to learn such a move make HM's a quick but expensive alternative.

Pokedex's are no longer a single item meant to give info about Pokemon but instead are a all around item which can make calls, send mail, etc. etc. You acquire one in the beginning when you turn 18.

Yeah, the game begins when you are 18, before that you can be a trainer, but you cannot have a battle license or anything so yeah. You have the choice of choosing who your pokemon partner was all this time, similar to the original games, except that it has already been with you for a while.
In a fashion similar to the Mystery Dungeon games, you answer questions which determine what moves your Pokemon partner has in the beginning, and how much combat experience it has.
Pokemon also don't learn moves anymore by just leveling up, there's no more 'levels'.
Wild Pokemon learn moves due to having to adapt to...well, the wild. However Pokemon born within the city or those who live within don't often have such great chances to learn, therefore there are learning centers for these city Pokemon, where they can learn moves.

Gameplay:
As said, this is an open world game. You can do whatever you wish, be a contest master, a Pokemon
Battle Master, a explorer, hunt legendaries etc. etc.
Or you can be everything, its your choice, and each questline and activity can take several hours.

Combat is entirely different, and is no longer turn based.
Both Trainer and Pokemon are used, and there are no longer any levels. Instead, there is a new "Combat Experience" system which increases as you battle. This makes the Pokemon AI more intelligent, encouraging you to battle more. Learning moves is also different, there are special learning centers(No name for it) which have environments of different kinds. You can do anything inside, and depending on how or how much you do things your Pokemon may learn a new move. For example, constantly using Thundershock on something may allow you to learn Thunderbolt or something.
Different things lead to different moves, using physical attacks may allow you to learn something like Slam, while using moves such as Flame Wheel will allow the Pokemon to learn more fire based attacks.
Again note, this is not just repeating actions again and again, you have to do different things with said moves or well, actions.

Now lets get right into combat, there are 3 separate bars, Health, which is self-explanatory, PP which are used for the more special Pokemon moves such as Ember or Iron Tail and Stamina which is used for special movement.
Combat takes place in a large environment in which both the trainer and Pokemon can move. The environment may be used as needed, for example, hiding behind a rock to well, hide, or avoid an attack.
Or climb tree's or fly around if the Pokemon is capable of it.

If the trainer is close, then you are in direct control of the Pokemon and can control its every action such as moving around, AKA you are playing as it.
Each Pokemon is capable of a few basic actions, such as normal attacks(Which can be mixed up by say, dashing then attacking, jumping then attacking etc.) Defending or dodging. There are also special movement actions, such as double jumping or sprinting or for some Pokemon, flying or swimming, these use the stamina bar.
Moves such as Ember can be used anytime and use PP which recovers slowly overtime.
Using a TM temporarily replaces all your PP using moves and in some cases uses less or more PP than a move your Pokemon already knows. However as explained before, this can be a unique move or a move your Pokemon may not yet know, therefore you have to carefully decide when to use it.

When using items, control is switched to the trainer, depending on the item you have to aim and use it, they are no longer instant.

Pokeballs need careful aiming, and catching Poke's is no longer dependent on how much health it has, its also dependent on where you aim it at, whether at the back, or the front, whether it was caught by surprise or not etc. Therefore, you can also freely switch to the trainer when needed to get him in a favorable position from where to throw a Pokeball or an item to heal your Pokemon.

Another reason control can switch to the trainer is when your Pokemon gets too far away(This happens only rarely in a normal battle if you stay aware, or if a quest battle calls for it. Getting a specific item negates this entirely, and its possible to get the item very early in the game and does not disappear, meaning even if you miss it, you can come back and get it.)

Combat Experience or CE comes into play when you are controlling the trainer, it basically decides how intelligent your Pokemon AI is and how it handles itself. The lower the Pokemon's CE, the higher the chances it panics or something, if high instead, it can actually give boosting effects such as bravery or adrenaline rushes where it uses a higher grade move without having learned it.
Pokemon switching can be done at any time, but like items, it requires aiming from the trainer, and once the on field Pokemon returns, you can choose where to send out the next, which can really put you in a great position if you release a Pokemon in a good area.

So much potential in Pokemon games, sooooo much.

But nooooooo, instead of making innovating true 3D games for all consoles and PC, they focus on adding a bazillion of new completely weird Pokemons that may have once been part of our nightmares.

Nintendo annoys me.

It's a brilliant strategy, though. I'd wait until Pokemon sales were way the **** down before I started changing up the tried and true formula, reinventing the franchise in new and exciting ways.

Thanks :V As Prae' said though, I doubt N will do anything like this anytime soon, the current formula is getting them tons of money >>;

Also uh, a small request, lets not start debating about what Nintendo should be doing >>; Just looking for some opinions on the idea, not trying to start up a discussion of Nintendo's doings with Pokemon <<;

All Pokemon ideas are good Pokemon ideas, its seeing them implemented is what our childish hearts desire.

But alright. I like how you've removed Pokemon levels and made it skill based. Closer to the anime.

Adds a challenge to battles having to aim to recall and call out your pokemon.

Imagine how bad you would feel when your Charmander faints because you missed it
