A better Melee system

This is sort of a new system I thought up of but it kinda brings back the lock on feature from the old version.

When your on the melee weapon you can put your mouse over an enemy and it automatically locks on them. You can't look away so the crosshair will always be on him unless you quickly move the mouse away from the enemy or press a certain button.

This way it would be easier to move around while trying to melee an enemy. For example heres a diagram of what it would look like.


Sorry about the crappy stick picture but you get the idea.

You can still swoop around and stuff so when an enemy is trying to use a ki blast or a beam you can swoop around it to dodge and counter with a simple melee. This would probally give you less freedom to move around though but if another enemy attacks you while you are locked on to someone else. You would automatically lock on to the person that attacked you. You don't have to lock on though its mostly just for melee.

Now that we got the moving around and such outta the way I can talk about the advance melee system now....

When you are close to an enemy you can hold the left click button to rapidly punch the enemy, this is weak attacks, BUT if you move in one direction while pressing left click you do a strong attack. For example

Hold W+Leftclick = Strong Uppercut
Hold A+leftclick Strong Left punch

And you can mix them up to do combos for example

Strong Left punch with a Rapidpunch after then a Strong Right punch

When you are hit with a 3 strong punches you get stun so you can't do anything. The only way to avoid getting stun is to block the punches which I'am trying to figure out how to do that. (Because simply holding block would be too easy)

And thats it! This would probally take a lot of coding and pretty complicated.

So on ur advanced melee suggestion: how do u want the player to avoid the fast punches w/o the lame direction keys like in 1.2 and w/o the block? Real time? I think the animations they would have to make to make that smooth are going into the 1000thn... and if you cant do it in real time it will slow down the whole game like 1.2 advance melee did... that sucked in my opinion. Same with the getting stunned after three fast punches... would make the game so predictable cuz then everyone would simply trying to stun their oponnent und charge an beam zu eleminate them.

No you can block the fast punches. The fast punches are like jabs. You have to take them head on and when you do 3 consecutive strong punches it will stun the other person then they will have time to do combos and such. The stun doesn't last that long only about 2 seconds. You won't have enough time to charge up your beam. The quick punches don't stun you and they do little damage for about 2 hp each hit.

I have a new idea for block though. When an enemy uses a strong punch you can use block which breaks their combo chain. You won't get stunned if you block.

Ok so... There are two thing's

1.Punches
2.Block the punches

Let's get first thing.

Right mouse buttom-Punching
Left mouse buttom-Kicking

And now! There can be great combination! If you klick 3x Right buttom and 6 Left buttom there can be some Combo hit! And if you klick everything fast there are many combination (Like mod "The Specialist"

Now second thing!

Block's could be very easy! Because if somebody has punching you,you have to fast clicking buttom Q if you do that too slow and person who has to punching you doing that fasting than you,you know what doing then.... I think it's the best Thing about Melee system:)

No real time melee. DMZ and DBS failed with such a system.

I dont really get the lockon idea here. But advanced melee sounds like it would be impossible to land a hit with a ping over 20.

Pfff I've played dbs but I hav'nt played dmz.

The reason the melee sucks in dbs is because they don't have the lock on system which makes it easier to hit your enemy. You don't have to keep moving your mouse around to try and hit him. Also its easier to avoid being hit. It's like strafing around but your camera is locked on your opponet for easier movement for melee. The camera lock doesn't work for beams though you must automatically aim at them when using beams.

Sounds familiar... didn't ESF Alpha have that melee system? I remember it failed miserably and no one used it.

I've just sprung another idea!!!

When you are swooping at an enemy and you engage advance melee combat? But when it does those constant 10 hits you can do punches and kicks while in middle of it. you gotta think fast though because you can only do it before it reaches 10 hits. Also on the last hit it you can do a simple melee and push the enemy back. If you do a weak attack and your combo ends both characters get pushed back.

You can also teleport while in mid combat. For example your doing a combo and you can tele behind the enemy and do Strong punch but ending the combat.

This way it would be faster than the old advance melee because you don't stop in mid air and the combat only last about 10 seconds!
