You should always try to get a system which will accept the highest performance ram available that is meant for home use.

In this case, it would be DDR2 800MHz.

Though DDR3 will be around the corner, and promises to alleviate some latency issues DDR2 had compared to DDR.

Corsair Dominator PC2-8888 or OCZ Flex XLC-9200
Then you have: Corsair Dominator PC2-10000.
Any further questions? :p

how do i know what type of ram the computer will except, i havnt started building/buying parts yet but i have a processor and video card in mind already (with good price and reviews)

prenitum D 940 dual core processor (model Intel-Bx80553940)
Geforce 6800 OC Video Card (BFG technologies)

so, what part of the computer is the ram dependent on? the mother board?
also, do my choices of processor and video card comply?

edit: i think im going to only go as high as DDR (1GB of it) cause i found a good peice on PriceGrabbers, please answer my other questions. please and thankyou.

You'll have to stick to an upgrade path of whatever type of RAM you've got now. If your motherboard is accepting DDR, then it won't take DDR2, and vise versa.
