A substitute teacher in Norwich, Connecticut with no prior criminal record could get 40 years in prison for exposing a middle school class to pornography. She apparently was using the computer in front of students when a loop of pop-up ads for porn sites began to appear. The loops only intensified as she tried to close out the ads. The woman made the plausible defense that some sort of adware or malware on her computer caused the pop-up ads to appear. She also testified that she notified several teachers and administrators of the problem, and got no assistance.
This is Dumb, Why not accuse the school than the teacher? I do pity her, i mean, i could understand a payment of 100 bucks or something, But 40 YEARS! Man this is so wrong for human rights. Discuss.

The whole incident seems to be one big mess. I found this funny though:

Seems unlikely that a 40-year-old woman with no prior record would knowingly subject school children to porn -- not to mention the absurdity of the charge itself (is your average middle schooler today really going to be traumatized for life after exposure to pop-up porn?) and the ridiculous possible sentence
I don't see why they would overreact like that, but then again, it was in a school, and stuff like that is usually not tolerated, whether accidental or not.

[sarcasm]sure, the kid's life is ruined for the rest of their life, because they saw boobs.[/sarcasm]

One time people in my class (i wasnt involved, i swear o_o ) put a porn video playing on the school teachers computer that was being projected to the class wall. Well nobody did go to prison or got any fines, but the teacher was pretty angry at our class. He still hasnt figured out who did it...

Damn there are some strict rules on the West coast. But on the other hand, i could probably take a rocket launcher with me to school and most likely nobody would stop me.

That has to be false information. What kind of charge could harner 40 years of prison? Especially if they are just ads?

well, there aren't any proof, i've seen that news in many sites now, atleast i believe it's real.

yeah well it sound sodd, especially when a murder or rape is much worse than just a flash of popups, you get even less sitting in jail if you do rape+ murder than this!

That has got to be a made up story!

If not, then:
- the school should be the ones getting punished for not keeping their content filter up-to-date and not having a decent ad-blocker.
- the parents should recieve a full apology from the school as it was their fault (not the teacher's).
- the supply teacher should sue whoever started this nonsense for wasting her time.
- that computer "expert" should be jailed for 80 years for being such a dumb idiot!! (or atleast his title should be changed from "computer expert" to "stupid n00b" o_O )

It's the fault of whoever manages the school's computers.

Does a plant shadow looking like a penis count ? Because practically our whole class was laughing at it XD. The shadow was behind the teacher so she didn't notice and didn't quite figure out why we were giggling for like 30 minutes.

40 years? Armed robbery doesn't even net 40 years. Only the most extreme cases get that many years in prison. Sure, if the teacher actually exposed HERSELF and tried to sexually harass all the students while holding a knife to their necks, then maybe 40 years would be realistic (though I would assume 30 would be spot-on). 40 years is like a sentence someone gets for killing someone, but pleading guilty.

I smell a bull**** case. My sister has taken classes in law school so I'll be asking her about this one.

I really have trouble believing this story, locking away a teacher for ****ing 40 years only because she had trouble dealing with pop up ads?

If anything, the Teacher would get suspened from school for a week, jail is not necessary.

Grr teachers make mistakes indeed.

This **** is stupid. So im not the only school that has the projectors either huh. Well my teacher (looks around to see if he's here o_o) has one of those things and uses it constantly but one time in the middle of class i talked to him about a Flash game we enjoy called N_Ninja and some how goes onto the subject that i need to spend less time on the computer watching porn and jackin off and get to my homework instead.....*note: there were girls around that i like when he said that. ****ing douche....never let him down for that.....<.< Plus that porn pup things has happened to me and things get worse when you close them each time....i had to turn off my computer to get rid of it..This also reminds me of the newest Boston Legal on ABC where the teacher was being fined or senteced cause the kid was allergic to peanuts and another kid gave him the candy bar therefore the kid died.

This seems ludricous but if its true then .... criminals have it easyer and safer than teachers.

I mean kill some band of random humans and you might get a lesser sentence than a teacher who had a pop-up problem.

While being criminal you can say that you were temporarly insane, and youd get of real easy, well that is if they belife you.
That insanity thing wont be sutch open of an option for a teacher i think.

The one who proposed sutch a sentence should be smacked uncontius with an newspaper.

Criminals cannot get away easily by pleading insanity as it has to be proven that the criminal is in fact legally insane. Pleading temporary insanity doesn't hold up in court very well. Either way, you wouldn't have an easier life after having plead insanity.

BUT IT IS TEH CHILDRENSS!!!1!!OEN!!

I dont know why everyone ****ing goes ballistic over anything where a child is with in 10000 miles. It's like grow up people you think half of the kids don't look at porn anyway?

But yeah this will most likely be dropped before it turns into a mess.
