Mm, I saw this earlier on Guru3D, I'll copy & paste.

Looks ok, Turok from 2008 looked like this level or so. It's not that impressive, to be honest. It would've been a few years ago, but now it's just kinda "expected", you know?
Lol, wow. I agree it's a great engine, and no, my eyes do not need to be checked. It does give a great visual / performance ratio, I agree with that. I hear the Editor is actually a ***** though, at least most mod teams & indie teams complain it uses an out-dated format and crashes easily.

Tacked on DX11 support? Listen, unless it's there from the start, it won't be true DX11. Not impressed.

You think this is amazing man...? Seriously? Bad Company 2 had this on the first level of SP, and I thought it was just "to be expected" of any recent game.
Honestly, I am not impressed by the video, is the basic point, we've been seeing tech demos like this for years. Also, my friends over @ G3D ran the Benchmark, even with Core i7's, and the latest 5xx line from NVIDIA, they manage 12-15FPS, for Visuals that are only to be expected of 2010, and some games have had for years.

I'm sorry, but in no way does that look like Turok.

Was it upgraded? I've always loved Epic Games for these FPS-friendly engines. I can run Unreal Tournament 3 on my AMD Sempron 2600+ 2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, GeForce 7600 GT with fair FPS in a singleplayer with max settings (bloom drops it below 60, though) and I still can play multiplayer with a good FPS config.

This engine is awesome.
I'd wish Valve would come up with a new engine.

You still don't know the purpose of Source do you.

Its a true upgradeable engine. They don't need to throw it away and make a new one every couple of years. Its entire structure is based on its updatability. Portal 2 is proof of that.

I dunno. After witnessing CryEngine 2 and Crysis, everything after that is... meh :p . Also what is with the severe lack of color? I mean they're showing nature, a close up on flowers, and all the colors are washed out(even without color grading it looks washed out). Ya know EPIC you shouldn't make this crap your signature move. I'd think that after UT3 and GoW people already got sick of all the browniness and washed out colors

Source looks better to me, especially with some of the mods now just coming out. Source has more realistic lighting, and character models, facial animation, just in general, I am sucked into a Source game far more than a UE3 game.

It's called color degrading and it's used a lot in films.

Why would anyone want to degrade colour?

*It's supposed to set a certain mood. You can desaturate, replace, or saturate color.

Example:

That's called color grading, not degrading. A better example would probably be Saving Private Ryan, blue tones, give a sort of a grim and cold atmosphere.

99,9% of all movies use color grading to set a certain tone in the movie.

Edit:
Actually, this movie shows you even better the differences between color graded stuff and non-color graded:

Developers probably get their visual inspiration from the engine. It's their own choice though.
