I did download ESF 1.2.3 the installer, but it is having trouble finding the Half life file and that was the 3rd step which I mean HL1.
I cannot install ESF 1.2.3 on windows 8

Yes I did. 3 times. But every time I install it, it never finds it.

The Half-Life folder has been moved to the "common" folder a while ago. It's a side-effect of the new content system on Steam. The ESF installer still detects the (new) folder location correctly.
