The mind is a wonderful thing.

You guys are awesome :stuck_out_tongue:

Hypnosis is defined to me as “opening the mind up”

For instance.

My brother in law, would have insane nightmares every night and wake up screaming around the age of 4. His grandfather was one hell of a smart dude and a “hypnotist” I s’pose. He put him into a trance, and until three years ago, my brother in law has not remembered any of his dreams.

I know people are going to ask for proof, but it’s not like I have a friggin video of it or something. :stuck_out_tongue:

o_O

O_O

Hypnosis! RAWR

Yeah, hypnosis is actually suggestion, you encounter it every day, each time you look at a commercial, you get hypnotized, you are being suggested to do things, and the reason they have idols and celebrities in commercials is because trust them, which makes the whole thing 200 times more effective.

I have also heard of things like people getting hypnotized, and they get asked things they have no way of knowing, and they answer correctly.

Yeah, hypnotism affects the subconcious, so you have no knowledge that the information has gone in, because you can’t really recall it at will, but it is there and will pop out when it’s required so to speak. I also hear that hypnotism can be very dangerous, people reverting back to hypnotic states and stuff, but obviously I don’t know if it’s true.

As for the mind, I believe that it is much more powerful than we know. I’m interested in psychology myself, so I’ve seen a lot of studies trying to explain a lot of human behaviour, and while they give you an idea of how it works, every single study has problems that take away from its credibility and so none of it is fact. Even those studies only deal with understanding human behaviour, none on what the mind might be capable of.

I think the placebo effect that Hworang mentioned is probably the best example of mind over matter. It seems scientifically impossible, but the evidence does suggest that it can be done. Whether more is possible with mind over matter is another thing, I would be a fool to think that science will never discover the secrets of the mind, but it won’t be in my lifetime, and I’m kind of glad as with human behaviour a powerful mind is a dangerous thing.

Most fears, fear of the dark, creatures, monsters, noises and other are generated by other humans fears making the mind fear them also. The biggest fear which almost every fear brakes down to is… the fear of the unknown. As humans advance in their technology one has to wonder… humans have created life, taken life, and destroyed our planet by war and nuclear components… What will happend when human life is gone? will there just be nothing how do we know whats beyond our galaxy. What if there was nothing? No Life, No Planets, No Galaxies, Nothing… What would we see, if u die what happends do you see black, white or nothing, but nothing consists of black their must be color so wht is it? these things we will never know and I wonder and get so close to the answer my mind “Blocks” me off as though it doesnt want me to know. Strange but true.

-From Joe, a 12 year old very smart kid.

You’re not all that smart.. Fears are inspired by other humans, but not just by that. Fear of the dark is caused by the following → You hear noises but cannot see them, this confuses your mind, and since we do fear the unknown, we also fear this connection together.

And the world blowing up, its not going to happen that way. Humans have realized that nuclear war would destroy the entire world with it, and not even president Bush is stupid enough to launch a nuclear missile. Pollution is being fixed as we speak, and our world will most likely stay this way for another 100.000 years, and at that point, we will all be long gone, and we wont have to think about it.

What joe said is a strong point, we wer made so our brain capacities understand to a certain point , and then if we try as hard as we could we could not know anymore than that point because our brains “block it off” and there is a reason for it, but again we wer not suppose to know the reason so our brain “blocks” it off for reason, and that reason is “blocked” off for another reason and so it goes on.
Say if we use 20% of our brains for thinking we might know some more reasons again until a certain point. This is also a scientific fact because our cells were made for only so much.
I think the brains 10% leads off in many different paths, e.g pshycic ablilities or intelligence , but you have to choose it . e.g Chi is energy controlled by the brain, u have to practice that part of the brain to reach full potential , and full potential is too rare for anyone only those deeply dedicated like certain monks etc etc.
Theorys are just thoughts trying to be released by the brain , you will come up with amny different theorys every single day and mix them together , that is how the mind plays .

Being afraid of the dark has nothing to do with fearing the unknown. Fear and the imagination are extremely powerful, and they fuel each other. If you have a slight fear of anything, you begin to think about it and your imagination turns a simple shadow into the most demonic force the universe has ever encountered.

Humans fear what they do not understand. This doesnt necessarily mean we fear the unknown as we are constantly trying to learn about things that we have no knowledge of.

Affecting the material world using your mind is possible, but can only be done by a handful of people (who usually spend they’re entire lives working on their mind). So what can the mind do? It can do anything. Life is but a dream…cough Hey look! A bird!

Well from an evolutionary standpoint, Zarius, humans are not remarkably fast or agile, remarkably strong or vicious, and they have no real natural weaponry. So, adaptation. Our intelligence kept us alive, and because that worked, we got smarter and smarter as it was the intelligent humans who survived.

Hwoarang, I dunno what you’re talking about with guilt trips and hatred because of dreams… o_O Maybe if I like, dreampt that I had sex with my mom, I’d start feeling pretty disgusted and guilty, but otherwise most of my dreams are of a completely irrational nature anyway, so… yeah.

It’s hard to say if dreams actually foretell the future, or if they only seem to because we are more likely to recall or reconstruct dreams that seem to have come true.

Hehe while reading this i had desa-vu or what its called…
P.S Well yes but the dasavu thing is explaned this way that your barin is trigered that you feel it happend alreddy … Actualy it dint…
Tho i dont belive that human mind has true potensial… But human cant controll there mind and anything..
P.S Do you know that human has energy in him … Electrisety…
So basicly … Now dont get me wrong … Dont think i trully belive this but…
In the esf world As i like to call it.. They can use there mind to generate tons of electriety there called ki…
And thro the help or the same mind manipulat it…
Ya ever seen that You want something you belive that you can do it YOU WANT TO DO IT!!!
And you do it 3 times bether even???
Well that happens to me a lot times…
P.S I think fighting is more fun than you can imagen my friend is a boxer and …well fighter…
So i do some training with him every day
Eventualy we came to a point were we where ecual and Well i must say i made progress… I fouth him and again and again and again…
After i got angry i just belived that i have no limits and Whell for the first time i bet him and then … Whell i must say it was still verry interestion to push my limits …
I Hope i dont sound like.. I am a super man …
P.S Did ya ever think what is a human .,… billions of cells… and mind? Well cell with electric impulses so what are we… Where nothing and everything… :stuck_out_tongue: Funy isent it???

Humans have the strong ability to adapt. When the need is there, we will adapt again, and start using more brain potential, as we allways have been doing.

I believe, somehwere in the future, this will lead to amazing things, like telekinesis, or controlling chi in the dbz way.

I believe in what you say Magus, but it’s just not the right time yet.

Joe, your mind is not stopping you from attaining these answers, and I assure you that you’ve never gotten close. The answers to the questions you posed have no immediately forseeable answer; nobody can answer them just by “figuring it out,” such as what happens when you die.

And as Deman said, remember that we physically use all of our minds. Scans can show the electrical impulses moving throughout it; no doctor has ever said “Well, he was shot in the head, but luckily the bullet was lodged in the useless 90% of his brain.” If you want to talk about it on a sub-concious level… maybe. But who’s to say using “the rest”, if it in fact exists, just might make you better at math, or memory, or something? Sort of like

“You see that light in the sky?”
“Yeah.”
“Can you explain it?”
“No.”
“It must be a UFO!”

Time has proven that the absence of knowledge often makes us point to the paranormal. But more often than not, we find reasonable scientific explanations for these things, as time goes on. It must’ve seemed like common sense that there were dragons at the end of the world, or that only Gods could be the cause of a volcano eruption.

Just playing devil’s advocate here. I don’t really reject the possibility of any of these ideas.

Fear of the dark is also inspired by natural instinct; we are not nocturnal creatures, and thus at young ages we prefer light.

Walking on coals, I don’t know the exact art. I’m guessing you simply find a way to ignore the pain, like those monks who set themselves on fire. Yes, if you attune yourself correctly, you can disconnect your nerves, but I wouldn’t call that anything incredibly strange. I had an art teacher who could do something like that; you could smack him as hard as you could on the hand and nothing would happen. But the body is still taking damage.

On that topic, I find it pretty interesting what your mind can convince your body of. For example, some people only have to think of the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard, and they will get shivers up their spine. Imagination is teh powerful.

Personally, I hope humanity doesn’t evolve into the kind of people you’re saying. With telekinesis, or the ability to control ki well, or pyrokinesis, etc, because what do you think is going to happen?

People already abuse the technology given to them, if someone could throw things from their mind, and spawn fire, do you think this would be a peaceful world? Not to mention discrimination against those born ‘without’ the gift, or those with weaker abilities.

As for ‘mind over matter,’ I think the whole placebo issue is people thinking they’re getting a benefit from taking the placebo, so they write “yes, back pain relief.” But the instant they find out they’re just eating sugar, they magically notice the pain again. I don’t think this is an otherworldly ability, or example of magical human characteristics–I think people are just gullible and are open to ‘suggestion’ everyday–whether or not they’re in trances.

If placebos really ‘work’ to correct more than simple pain relief, we should start giving people suffering from HIV/AIDS, and see if one of them magically combats it–because then, we’d have the antibodies to fight AIDS, and all thanks to Sugar. Wee!

Anyway, in the spirit of ‘belief,’ I’ll add this:
When I was younger, my mother could tickle me without actually touching me. Just make the motions a few inches above my body, and I’d laugh hysterically just as I was being tickled.

if id say that i dream something like driving on a bus and knowing all the details for later, and then day or 2 after it realy happens, the same as in the dream - would u believe me?! im afraid i cant give evidence but im not a liar.. i usualy dream the next day or two in scholl and stuff like il get a (C) on an exam.. and i realy do.. my mom knows but she doesent realy believe me..

and realy.. i didnt made it up.. would u tell me if mind can do that, or i have a memory prob.. i believe it is possible..

Too late Alea. The evolution has begun. More and more people are being born with these abilities and more and more people are beginning to try to gain these abilites (we all have them; its a matter of unlocking them). Even the American government and the former ussr took these abilities seriously. They funded these projects with billions of dollars in order to beat the other side. I wonder what they are doing now?

The mind is very powerful. what about those people that think they are sick. they really aren’t but they think they are. so doctors give them sugar pills placiboes or something i don’t know how to spell it. But that’s quite amazing.

and what about people that attain great strengths when in a life threatning situation. or if a loved one was in a life or death situation. Not just the mind but the body can be quite amazing as well

Mind + Body in sync = Super Man (or goku).

DUN.. DUN..

DUN!!

Meh, lots of people are using their minds like that already, they just dont know about it.

Thats was funy…
Has anybody ever fought and beten somebody and then notice that there alsow wonded… And then the pain kicks in…
Hapens to me alllllllllllll te time i get angry or Upset and then angry…

I am talking like forgeting abouth pain or belive your stronger and you need to be stronger and you lift more weights than you ever could???
Try it it takes tons of practise But it gives you great fun and you can even imagen when i was with my girl friend and then a gang of 3 people sarted deesing her… I sayd back off… And he with a verry common russian phrase says: What?! You whant you teath knocked out?
So i sayd: You really beilve ya are capeble to do that?
Next thing he hits me in my mouth with was cuite a outch but i dint feel any pain I was still geting pissed more and more and then sayd : Pofetic He sayd ony : Wha…(I hit him in the stomache…)
The oder 2 dic.heads just ran away…
Now the guy who git me was 15 cm biger than me .. Buft up to…
So i got a real trat from my girl friend witch i knew would happen…
So … Mind over body…

Witch 1 seemed imposible… But lather i did it in 5 sec…

I actually reckon nature are ground rules , and rules are made to be broken , if you believe you can move things with you mind then it is possible , just takes time to master it …:S
or if you believe you can do kamehameha then u better get cracking coz you dont live forever. I reckon the brain sets ground rules but limititations are much higher you have to learn to pierce you brains restrictions.

It’s called adrenaline. In the heat of the moment, you’re not focused on pain. Which is why, once your body has calmed down, you start to notice other things… like pain.

Wow, after struggling through that reading that mess and having an aneurism, you really havn’t proven anything. You beat up someone bigger than you… so what, that’s not exactly anything special. Doesn’t prove the mind is oh so magical and you’ve unlocked your greatest potential because his friends ran away.
