esf final no run half - life no steam ?. 
So… i can play the 1.2.3 version and 1.3 version just having the Half Life 1 ??

I can’t as for now since i own hl and i haven’t tried it so call me a noob if you like.
The easiest way is to create the folders itself.
Than again it’s been far to long since i’ve been playing with them models and stuff since 1.1 for me
to actually remember the full pathname.
Not sure but i believe the installer looks for a fmod.dll file inside the hl folder.
Either that or i had issues with that file in the past… no other explenation for me
to even remember that file lol
But be honest if you make those folders and manage to install it, it would
really be the most stupid thing you could do imo.
I just don’t get it how ppl actually think it’ll work with source games and flawlessly with illegal copies of hl

Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released
The specific changes include:
Half-Life 1 Engine
Fixed UI crash when running a MOD
Not sure if this has something to do with it but the won hl version probably hasn’t got this update.
WON stands for World Opponent Network. It is the default system that comes with Half Life 1 for multiplayer games. It was the thing that allowed multiplayer games to work with the GoldSRC engine (searching for servers and so on) before STEAM was made.
After STEAM was made HL1 got patched a few more times and those updates are not available on WON. They are STEAM exclusive and dont come as installer files because they are downloaded automatically though STEAM. Those patches include updates that remove WON from the game and replace it with the STEAM server browser along with other updates to the game and to the SDK to work fully with STEAM.
So yes in a way you could say non-STEAM is to outdated to run ESF:Final.
What Grega is saying that non-steam will not work on 1.3 as it did for 1.2.3, the non-steam version will break for 1.3 as it is not optimised to run something as 1.3.

Yes you can but Esf Final only with HL1.
Pretty sure 1.3 is Final. Also, no version of ESF works with CS:S.
It’s confusing. There’s the 1.3 open betas, which are old and released and incomplete. Then there’s also 1.3 final, which is the version in development and will probably be the last version ever released, if there are no bug fixes.
I think that ESF Final is 1.3 and that the old version of ESF 1.2.3 worked with CS (not online though).
esf 1.2.3 works with counter strike 1.6 the open beta final does not work there
Well technically we are just calling it Final. Or ESF 1.0 ^^
1.3 is a fan term for it.
And whether after the edition esf final there will be some additions. ubdate.
There most likely wont be any more versions after that one. Hence why we are calling it Final ^^;
