He's losing attention quickly, and the more attention he loses, the more he'll work on getting it back. That's how attention whores work. Once he starts working hard enough to resort to the most drastic of measures he can resort to, and THAT doesn't work, and it causes him severe consequences, that's when he'll stop.

Let's just hope he never accidentally kills a bird again.
