Try installing 1.1.1.0 over a fresh installation of Half Life straight away instead of upgrading from 1.1.0.9, and then install ESF. Upgrading from .1.0 to .0.9 could have messed something up.

You don't download Half Life, you buy it. Go to the nearest gaming software store and buy a copy. That's the only way you can play online.

Hmmm from what I'm understanding, I think you're having the same problem that happens to me when I try to play ESF on my laptop. What used to happen to me is once I exit from a game back to the multiplayer menu (that is, after the console/graphics for the game have already been initialized)...

o_O This is one for Harsens... never seen anything like this before, ESF shouldn't be creating files outside the HL or ESF directory.

You might have replaced some wrong sprite files which can cause your ESF to crash, a simple reinstall never hurt anyone.
