I think you're assuming to much organization in the ESF team there. You're not informed of progress in the plan because there is no plan. There is no plan because most of the team members just want to do whatever they feel like, so progress is rather chaotic/organic.

Ah, ok. If you want to do anything on/with/close to hardware then I guess C++ would be your language of choice, since it runs on many platforms. C# is effectively a windows-only language.

If you opt for C++, make sure the course covers C++11, rather than the oldschool stuff. C# (or Java, Scala) are much cleaner languages to learn Object Oriented programming in and most programmers (including me) are more productive in these languages. I tend to avoid having to do anything in C++...

It's called ESF final for a reason, so I guess not. There will probably be a bugfix/rebalancing release after ESF Final though; after that I'm expecting most of the team to move on to something new/more profitable, as many of their predecessors already did.
