    you got the idea of how to skin down pretty well. however, it looks like you used MSPaint to create the skin, i would recommend Adobe Photoshop 7.0 though it's not freeware.

    you did good for a rookie modeler. that's the basic look of gaara but you did use quite a bit of poly's.

    for a skin that detailed you should define the muscles within your shades. it looks to blurry especially in the legs.

    the model has a nice texture to it. it's easy on the eyes.

    starting new skin

    the skin is great, you did very well. my crits would be to add some rust or wear and tear to the feet , it would give your model a overall realism look.
