Wow thanks a bunch, its all working extremely well now. Just one more thing, i noticed before i installed it this way I could play "console" which I guess is single player. How do I play single player now?

Well I have played this game several times but I have yet to succeed in installing it on my own computer even after reading all these posts. I start by installing HL2 and then upgrading to 1.1.0.8 which is apparently the latest version I am able to find (if anyone knows a better one please post...
