One of my computers is fairly new maybe like 2002 or around there. It's a Compaq Presario 7400, with windows XP home edition, ADM Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 ghz processor, 112mb of ram, its got a presario C: drive with 33.8GB total space and 23.0GB free space, F: drive is a presario_rp with 3.43 GB total space and 528mb free space. It is super slow. i can understand why it is slow online because it's got dial up. But even offline it is really really slow. At first I thought it was the hard drive but then i looked at it and saw that it had plenty of space left. So I think that it's the RAM because 112mb is really low so i was thinking about upgrading to 256mb or 512mb. Would that make it faster?

Have you heard of Spyware?

It's .exe files that can and usually will prohibit slower processes from your CPU as well as motivating other similar files to add further sloth-like actions of the threads your CPU recieves. I recommend purchasing, over downloading, anti-spyware software that deals with this issue, and at least allowing this to be an experiment of possible success.

yeah i suggest you buy some new ram, 112mb isnt much, but there are also other things you can do, try googling for some anti spyware program, often spyware slow down you pc

www.diskeeper.com
http://www.mrbass.org/freeware/crapcleaner/

diskeeper is a good program that defragmentates your disk speeding it uo
crap cleaner deletes certain files which also speed up your pc...but im not sure diskeeper is free, so you might want to search for another defragmenter which is free...more programs:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Lavasoft is the creater of Adaware, which is an anti spyware program
And microsoft currently has a spyware program in beta stage for free
Adaware is free, but you get a better version or something if you buy it

I already did all of that stuff. I used disk defragmenter and microsoft anti spyware, i have ad aware and spybot search and destroy too. I did it all last night and its faster but its still pretty slow. There was tons of adware and spyware. It's my grandma's computer but I'm making it faster and keeping viruses off of it and stuff. But i think she needs more RAM. Maybe a faster processor too but i think 1.5 is ok.. Mine has 2.4 but she only uses it for e-mail basically and its slow.
