Am pretty sure i read a discussion about that somewhere. Well, from what i remember, the answers no. Too much debris would cause too many calculations (and annoyances) finally causing the Devs Heads to explode. And we wouldn't want that... would we?

I don't think it would be that hard, I think this could even be done by raycasting.
And I also don't think this isn't the first time about 256 entities are being tested for collision

Sending entities to random direction and checking player-entity touch for damage? Not that hard, but useless and not efficient since it would require to create many entities which cause FPS drop.

Have you ever played garrysmod ? try spawning enough entities to make your fps drop, it'll drop fast.
