Why do you ask? You can always take the old maps from ESF 1.2 and 1.1, they will be compatible.

You could always add them to your maps list and like rename them e.g esf_city_classic. A retro server would be cool.

It would be a good idea to release 1.3 with its own maps, and release all the maps up to 1.2 in a seperate package for the newbs to download.

Here is the deal. The maps are the small part of the size weight. While people scream more characters/transformations they dont realise that its exacly that part that makes ESF so big.

Besides not all old maps will be comming out with 1.3

But those that will will be in there.

Besides As far as i remember John you dont have a download limit (or was that someone else)

I don't really think the size matters, I mean. The Team can always make "Lite" versions that smallers the Client and or Server files. I don't quite understand your question though, do you mean that v1.3 (later on) will have the old but original v1.2 maps?

you just do like you do in esf 1.2 you take the maps of 1.1
now you take with 1.3 the maps of 1.2 or 1.1 also, you just maybe have
to rename it or something like that

v1.3's maps are different then v1.2. Hence, you can't convert the v1.3 maps to v1.2.x.

i know but if you only change the name of the 1.2 maps then you can use it on 1.3 for example: we already have a new ESF_CITY map in 1.3, if you take the ESF_CITY map from 1.2 you just rename it to ESF_CITY_OLD

Earth to John. There is a bittorrent file. Its the main distribution methid. Full downloads (hl2-files and esf-world) are only backups. But the main thing are all torrents.

Where on earth are you getting those numbers from? The size of the current Open Beta is:
- Uncompressed / Unzipped = 408 MB
- Compressed .ZIP = 259 MB (this is the standard one you actually download)
- Compressed .RAR = 231 MB

With a little effort, I managed to get the size below 200 MB:
- Compressed .7z (7-Zip) = 196 MB.

And those sizes are actually too high... because I started on first Open Beta release then did the 3 patches.
This made duplicate files... e.g. 2 copies of the same cyborg 17 and 18 sound folders from when they changed the name.
So however you look at it, you won't be downloading 500-700 MB. :]

Also, here is a rough view of model and map sizes:
- model sizes = 0.5 - 2.5 MB
- map sizes = 2 - 8 MB

So if you just take the middle values, each model = 1.5 MB, each map = 5 MB.
Not really much to worry about... they'd have to put in like 50 more maps to make the d/l size up to 500 MB.

It was just proven to you that the actuall download file is 200 megabytes big. So whats with that 408 MB size.

Thats not what you download thats what you have as an end result.

Still i dont see your point o_O

Is there a bittorrent file? YES

Is the download 408 Mb big? NO

Yes, but how are you going to download it uncompressed?

We get given the ESF releases in zip format. (259 MB, not 408 MB)
