ESF Final Moddability

Considering that ESF Final is going to be running on the HL engine, Will the game be highly moddable like ESF 1.2.3 (Custom Characters Ect) or not moddable at all. And if it is a yes will there be special tools for creating and designing characters, stages and content or will it be done through the default HL SDK tool and will it be simple to create the characters themself.

Given the new dragon ball content coming out i hope this is the case as i would love to see some of the newer characters being eventually added by fans giving new life to the game :)

Not sure about AMXX, but hopefully Metamod (or Metamod-P) will work with it. Hopefully ESF devs will make it compatible if needed.

No idea really. Serverside admin stuff should work, but the client side of HL has been practically replaced. So no idea how thatll affect metamod.

For example , when you had to much costum Characters in 1.2.3 it gives you this error -
Host_Error: PF_precache_model_I: Model 'models/p_elite.mdl' failed to precache because the item count is over the 512 limit.
Reduce the number of brush models and/or regular models in the map to correct this.

.mdl files are only used for characters now.

A few effects probably use them, but mostly the effects are done in a different way now. So things like auras and so on are not models.
Same goes for trees and rocks in maps. They are part of the map geometry, and as such are not .mdl files and no longer counted towards the .mdl limit.

Less really. YOu have to take in to account that 1 character has multiple models, 1 per form.

Models count as models. just the .mdl files.

What Grega is saying is that we're limited to 512 models. If we take an average of 3 or 4 forms per character, that's 170 or 128 potential characters. That's way more than we could ever get in previous ESF versions, because .mdl files were as well used for things other than player models, such as auras, trees, stones, some effects.

Not unless you can make valve release the HL code.

Its not something we are having issues with so its not really something we need to tackle.

There would be no need for a higher limit, just as hlev said having around 120 characters is doulbe of what there is in ECX
if anyone is gonna make something similar to ECX, there would be tons of characters, even more than in current dbz console games

When talking about custom models for the final i think model limit will be the least of your problems, there needs to be someone willing to make good models first!

Server name need change to "ECX + DBS", "ECX + DBS chars" or "ECX + GOD". :D

You guys do realize that while we still use .mdl files for the characters, a lot of BG handling was totally rewritten to bypass HLs limitations on the models. As such it wont be as easy to do things like ECX did.

But would it be possible to just swap the .mdl with a new one?
Like in esf open beta final you could swap goku with vegetto.
