Well, the best temporary solution to modeling for free is to download a copy of MilkShape 3D from: http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/

You get 30 days free and after that trial time limit, you must send him cash to get a registered version. (BE CAREFULL! You can't save any work on an expired version. So watch how many days you have left... I got screwed with that alot with the last few times I used it... :\ )

you can probably just download a full free version of it illegally through a p2p sharing program like kazaa(fixxxer does not encourage or support downloading illegally nor does he do it himself. )
