For the most part, the testers are on 56k's and really don't have any problems. It might laggier if the server itself is on a 56k connection.

But if you connect to a good server and are on a 56k, you should be alright.

Your fps has nothing to do with lag.

Hello FRIEZA welcome to the forums. The way half-life runs is the server talks with the clients to keep them synchronized it takes quite a bit of server CPU time and RAM to keep everyone running smoothly, but it doesn't handle the graphics the client does.

SO having extreme graphics card on 56k will allow you to run at a high frame rate so if the server can keep up with the CPU load then you will run smoothly with the graphics turned up, kind of; or having broadband internet with a 2mb intregrated intel EXTREME :)D) graphics will cause you to suffer from the graphics.

The internet connection isn't the main cause of "lag" usually is a combination of things that causes you to notice "lag" If the server can't keep up the cpu load then it will cause everyone to lagg worse so being on 56k with more then normal lag will b pretty crappy but being on broadband you wouldnt notice unbearable skipping. All the special effects of the graphics have nearly no linear relation to the lag on the internet. Only assuming the graphics is taking LOTS of cpu processing time can it actually be the cause of "lag".

Summary: Good Card+Bad Connection=Nice Skippy Scenes
Bad Card+Good Connection=Crappy Scenes Hardly any skipping.

If I am mistaken on how the half-life servers work please metion it so I may correct myself later.

Amongst the dirty dutchies
indeed, you got 2 kinds of lag,
connection lag
pc lag,

* connection lag is when your ping gets high, or when you got loss/choke on youre connection, fps can still be 100

* pc lag, this is the kind of lag, when you are playing in a server, and all the data that needs to be calculated is too much, youre processor/videocard/memory cant handle this,
this will be noticed by crappy fps

i hope this will help you guys out
