~ key doesn't work

when i press the ~ to open the console window it does not work nothing happens can you help me, please?:cry:

on ur icon on the desktop right click
"proberties" and edit the target line, just add "-console" (without the "")
then the new targetline should be this: C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -console

and i hope u pressed the button next to "1" and unter the "ESC" button
