how do play esforces or better yet how do you start it up when you are finished installing it?

Well, since it's a Half-Life mod, you load Half-Life, and select and activate ESF Beta 1.0 from the Half-Life Custom Games menu.
If you want, I can show you how to make a shortcut to ESF itself though, so you don't have to select it through the Custom Games menu each time you wish to play it.

first make sure you have installed the updates then start half-life
in the main menu the should be a option 'custom game' click on it
then choose esf in the list and click on activate then just open a multiplayer game

ps: there is a help section on the forum for this use that in the future
