Just put yourself in the team's shoes, I would do the same. The movies and the series are basically two different planes, many of the things do not fall together right.
If they tried to follow both, people would say stuff like "but in this movie it happened like this, and not the way you did it!", or "this guy does this move like this in this movie, and not the way you guys animated it!"
And plus, it would just mean much more work for them, having to make the characters from all the movies into the game.
