Sorry, I honestly hadn't even been in the art forums until I saw people posting links in IRC.

Now I know about this subforum...

I honestly thought that all dbz stuff was public domain.
Sorry, I'll remove that one and delete it.

The others are dbz stuff too, are they considered ripping?

Using DBZ stuff isn't ripping, a artist should know that.
Unless if they know "NOTHING" about DBZ.

It is ripping if you steal official art from someone else, for example:
If I see something original, not belonging to a show or anything. Just something new from scratch and I take the picture or manipulate the picture with Photoshop and finish it.
If I say this stuff 'belongs and is created by me' then it is RIPPING.

But DBZ and other stuff belongs to a company...
They made it from scratch...
And we're taking them... using them... in sigs... and claiming them as our own. So thats why Im confused o_O
I still dont get it... further explination? >.<

It is not ours, but the people has the right to use it.
Besides, all knows that Akira made DBZ.

People that steals from a artist is ripping, if you're going to rip, you can rip legally by giving some credit to the artist that you copied from.

Ahh... I see >.<
So we cant take something someone else made.... and not give credit...
But we can use DBZ and stuff... because everyone else knows who made the thing...
Thanks for clearing my doubts ><

Well actually images do belong to there respectful owner. Its not ripping persay to take a picture of an anime charatcer drawn by the artist of the show, but it isn't really legal, its the same as me taking drawn chartcers from Cuc without asking and puttign thme on sigs, just this time its not a major anime selling company its just some guy.

II'd assume takign images from a ocmpany is the same as tkaing images from someone who drew them. For instance. If you drew Goku lets say and someone used him in a sig. Its the same thing as if your an artist in a nation wide anime company thing as if your a solo artist.

I'm not sure about the laws about taking images from national ocmpanies, but I'd assume its still in ownership of its rightful owner and that useing it is illegal, but nobody has itme to sew or email every person who uses an image of goku or whatever.
