cant get it to fire even with bots

my friend and i downloaded ESF last night and we could not get the characters to fire their attacks we thought that this might have been caused by not having any other characters to fight so we installed the bot program but the controlled character still wont fire everything else shoots at us but we cant shoot back whats wrong with this damn thing?

Are you selecting a move to do.... If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, rool it and other moves should come up. Also you can use the numbers 1-0 to seledt moves.
