Steam vs WON

I just played ESF for the first time and stuff, and I read how Steam would be better to use. All I do is just open the game and click "Play online" or whatever, so I'm not using Steam, so I must be using WON. But last time when I installed Steam, it somehow "spawned" files that were about 1gb large. It took up so much size. Is this normal? I would install Steam if it wouldn't do this.

So do I, at least when I tried it. You use WON? Doesn't give you any trouble? I have some crashes once in a while...

i only have crashes when the server ping is like 6000

Oh, heh, I never see that high. Highest I've seen so far is 900. But I crash when I'm connecting to a server sometimes.
