crashing instantly

whenever i get into the game i just crash instantly, right when the character select menu comes up.

anyway i can fix this?

A few select are having this, try downloading ESF from the Oktagone mirrors. That is the most reliable installer (some mirrors had older installers).

+Update your video/sound card drivers.
+Make sure your using DirectX or OpenGL.
+Make sure your system can handle the options you've chosen.
+Make sure you have the latest Fmod.dll in your Half-life Directory.
+Steam is recommended, use that.
+Try using High quality sound, select or deselect sound card hardware support, depending on your system.

You could try scan disk with steam, I know alot of ppl think its useless but hey its helped me through a ton of steam probs
