Steam for v1.2

NooB Question:

The .exe from the v1.2 Full Version does not work.
I do not have Steam installed.
Does this version need to have Steam installed to work properly?
I have been activating the mod from the HL menu screen to play it.
Am I or will I be missing features in the game without Steam?

Also, does anyone know the attributes of the MP3s used in the mod.
I know about the 128k bit rate, just wondering about stereo/mono settings
and file size limits.
Since I don't have Steam installed, I cannot modify the playlist.
I would like to take the DBZ music from BFP, convert to mp3 and
use in ESF.


And congrats to the ESF team... nice job on the mod.

You can use ESF 1.2 on WON but any thing you find wrong will not be helped due to the team all there stuff on Steam , so in other words yes you should use steam

Well you can download a 600 meg file from Valve
Or use the R.I.F. concept on the previous posts and
get the 119 meg Steam for ESF

It's 600 kB

make sure you have a hl cd key as well, or else you wont be able to play anything

I got steam from that site (www.steampowered.com) and it updates. how do i actually play esf from there? :]

Not sure..... my guess would be to install it and then
double click the ESF desktop icon?

BTW... Even legit store bought copies of HL may have issues with Steam.
Maybe they did not log the CD keys from the "Best Seller " series

I cannot set up ESF on Steam because it will not accept my CD key.
This is a store bought version that installed with the legit CD key.


Does anyone know if the HL desktop shortcut target text can be changed to run esf directly?

look in esf chat and check out the esf to steam sticky, that should help you out

Thanks Mystix ... I figured the shortcut out, but the only
problem with launching that way is that only the ESF shell gets loaded.
No all of the mod features are loaded.
