A dedicated server is a server made for other players to play on. Compared to a player server, the dedicated server will let everyone run at a much lower ping, at the expense of the server not being able to be a particapant by that machine.
That's one thing I dont get with steam, you can run a cs dedicated AND join it and have amazing pings. I tried it with esf everyones ping was 500... lol soooo f*cked up
