Trunks Simple Melee Hit

I thought I'd post on Trunk's simple melee hit because I've been wondering about it for a long time. With all the new animations and things being added in I was wondering why trunks doesn't do simple melee hits with his sword in 1.2. If trunks attacks do actually go through other's defences than shouldn't the sword be shown attacking? Just an idea to discuss.
