How about instead of having the solar flare as an instant move that consumes around 70% of ki, why not have a short charge (2 seconds) with an animation;

<img src="http://www.myfavoritegames.com/dragonball-z/Images/AttackGuide/Done/OLD/r-t/r09.jpg">

That way if your adversary is paying attention he'll notice the fingers going up to your eye level and turn his head away in time so he won't get blinded.

This also means the ki cost can be taken to a realistic level, just have a pause between each use ([brings fingers to eyes{2 seconds}] "Solar Flare!" [flash]{1 second} [ brings arms back down to sides]{1 second} *end animation*, rinse and repeat)

no because the solar flare IS an instant attack to begin with you have to remember how fast they would be able to move their hands and its light dude think of how fast light goes

They never moved their hands uber fast to do a solar flare. The moved their hands up to their face, enemy looked at the person and said "huh?", person says SOLAR FLARE!!!, and enemy goes "omgivebeenblinded!!!111".

In short, there should be an animation and it should be charged. After all, you need to pump ki into the solar flare so it reacts with the sun and the alignment of the stars....and stuff......so yeah.

There is an animation for it, and it is used. But when you use solar flare, the screen flashes white for just a second, so you dont see the animation play.

i think the affect of the solar flare is to weak to use it effectivly ingame.

yes it is affecting there sight, but it isnt affecting their movements at all.
when i´m totally blind i never get hit or touched at all.

i would like to see that i´m partly immobilised(i know its bad spelling).
by either resticting my teleport, or drasticly slower my movement, by decreasing the teleport distance by 3/4.

i mean its more harmfull to the one using the solar flare then it is for the one getting blind.

not that i´m a goku/krillin user

Solar flare is actually a very effective move, thats why its only allowed once per life, maybe the people using it on you don't know how to finish you off? I know that whenever I use solar flare I always get my target.

The solar flare is pretty useless 'cause reptile's right and if i'm not wrong I can use the scouter while being blind.
Anyways my idea is that when you use a solar flare you'll freeze, make the animation (which is like 0.5 seconds) so you can see it, and then shout "Solar Flare!" and make the flash. That way you'll have to know what your enemy is about to do because even 0.5 seconds is alot.

Off-topic: Why do you say you can use it 1ce per life? You can use it then charge and use again.

Yeah exactly, that's how it should be, I think thats what Rocky meant earlier, what's the point in blinding yourself? In the show it didn't blind the user, that would make it a pretty pointless move. I don't use Solar Flare but i've been affected by it and i've never seen the animation.

Actually, solar flare can be used multiple times without dying. I know this from person experience (was on the recieving end). Solar flare can be a dangerous tool in the right hands.

IMO i don't think the person using the solar flare should be flashed.... but hey it causes momentary blindness to both players just shortened on the givers side... and if youve seen any clips of a solar flare.. they got pretty good distance...

solar flare is more for the adv melee portion of the game... because when youre blind and you get locked into prepunches and then here comes the 3 punch combos at you.. you have to time it right to block all three assuming the guy doesnt mix up his combo

OFF topic: LOL Zeo... just lol

Like in the series they closed their eyes sometimes when they use it. Well just because you use your scouter dosen't mean you're going to hit them. I've found good defence for solar flare. Long Range: switch to Ki blast and start shooting. Close Range: Teleport once and block. If you're charge a beam not a blast then fire it and change move it should explode then causing some damage to your opponet. All this when you're blind. It's Kind of stink that you get flash too when you are solar flare and its like the cs flash as well. By the in close range turning away won't help just a lighter flash.

Well technically the scouter does go over one eye so if you're blinded you wouldn't be able to see that would you? So how about this, Solar flare has short animation, doesn't blind the user but blinds the oponent, he can still move but cannot see scouter or any thing else. Making it much difficult to escape and more chance for the user to swoop into advanced melee.

The ppl in dbz closed their eyes when they used it. So it's either a white screen or a black screen.
