Crash Help

Umm . . . I'm not very good with servers and that kind of stuff, but I followed BOTH tutorials on how to get EVM working with ESF 1.1, and I'm still having a problem starting the game. Whether or not I try to start my own servr with ESFTool or just join a server, everytime I start a new game, it goes through the stages such as starting local server game or something or other,but when it gets to Parsing Server Info it hangs for a minute or two, then crashes back to the desktop with no error messages or anything. I half the original Half-Life, and I've even tried playing in off-line mode. Please help me. I've played this game before 1.2.2 came out, about three or four months ago. Also, I am able to play regular Half-Life on Steam, as well as the They Hunger, Heart of Evil, amd Underworld Bloodlines mods without any problems at all. Thank you for your time.
