Very nice system, but some ... gripes.

420W power supply for all of that? Hm... may need to rethink that. 512MB GeForce 6800 Ultra? Overkill if you ask me :X. Value RAM for an FX55? That's going to give some performance hits right there. Especially if it's 3-4-4-8 timings. Let's hope it's not.

Alrighty, got 600W, Corsair XMS PRO, instead of the value ram, and roger that, the 512m 6800 is overkill. Better than that crazy fat guy next door with 3 400GB Hard drives though. =P

Ibuypower gives me $3,321. I can cut off here and there and shave it to a nice $3,000 though. Thing is, I don't exactly want to build it myself, afraid of screwing up.

I mean the 512MB part. Maybe you should just get a 6800GT or X850XT, both 256MB?

Trust me, building your own is very easy. It's all just putting things into slots, easy, easy, easy. You can't screw up, believe me. I was very nervous when putting together the one I'm using now, but I just took it slow and only had one problem, but was a cord problem, and fixed very easily.

Yeah, I meant the 512 part. Thing with the X850XT is, I hate ATI. And a 256MB 6800GT wouldn't be bad either... hmm...

A 256MB 6800-Ultra shaves it down to $3,071 on IBP, and I don't think there's going to be stuff that won't run on max everything with a 256MB for a while, so 256 it is.

And yeah, I do have loads of guides and everything on building one, but i'm just nervous. But I guess you can't go wrong with just following instructions. So, what's the best place for parts, newegg?

How come you're not getting Windows XP 64-bit Edition? You've got the processor for it, I would if I were you.

Because driver support is far from perfect
also most commonly known firewall/viruscanner products don't have their 64bit version ready yet

Windows XP 32-bit will do just fine for now!

Newegg only had the OEM for x64, so meh. I'm waiting for retail. And the stuff already mentioned. The money? I'm not paying at all for it. A little bet I won. The FX-55 will be useful sometime in the near future, and power turns me on <_<

I'm just saying, if they're on the verge of releasing a 64-bit OS, you may as well wait a few weeks until it's released (next month I believe) and get it instead. Otherwise you'd have an inferior OS on a superior machine, or waste money buying both. Give it a month, prices can only drop anyway.

i would wait for dual-core , don't waste your money , enjoy the dual core goodness

on another note , games are gonna get intense over the years to come , but i do think it is a good idea to get the 512mb card (as some games like d3 on high ass quality & a 1600x1200 res will want to consume you maybe , and games to come may be intense aswell , so it's always nice to have the extra memory there for textures/more rendering etc , but ati& nvidia are on the virge of releasing newer and better chipsets soon , so just wait up a little , and you will have a more powerful system in your hands with some new weapons of mass destruction to do whatever you like with ;) )

Dual-Core will have hardly any improvements in games as games are just single-threaded. If anything, they'll actually decrease performance considering that the majority of the wallet-friendly dual core processors are lower clocked than single core processors, you'll be getting less performance anyways.

Also, the 512MB cards have almost 0 to none improvement in current games, and I can see the trend carrying over to next year's for a while.

Really, I don't think people will notice the 4 or so fps difference in games. :laff:
