Myself I have 3dsmax, maya and modo and use them all from time, but for a while now I've been almost exclusively using Silo 2. Its a relatively cheap program coming to around 160$ to buy it. Has great modeling feel some sculpting tools (though not as great as zbrush 3) and in 2.1 the uv mapping...
The only reason to have only quads is if you're pushing it through zbrush or mudbox and I don't plan to do that so there's no real advantage for me to use only quads.
finished up the modeling part just need to work on the shape a bit and he's golden
also his legs are a bit too thick i think but i haven't gotten to that yet due to a mirroring issue
After seeing the 2nd movie and a barrage of hellboys on the GA contest i decided I'd make my own hellboy. I took him more towards the comic book than the movies. This is my first model in over i year a do believe but It seems to be coming along nicely.
I've not got a whole lot left aside...

Also I have on linux laptop vmware with xp for photoshop, not the fastest set up but it gets the job done.
I'm not talking about engine requirements I'm simply saying a texture improvement coupled with the already in place normal maps would greatly improve his model. I'm sure gir will know exactly what i'm saying.

I think your problem isn't the model or the normal maps they seem decent enough. Aside from the face and neck areas, I think your only real problem is what has almost always been your texturing. I find that texturing models with normal maps is in a lot of ways easier because you don't have to...
